The hounds had mixed results over the opening fixtures of the competition proper on the weekend with the Premier grade going down to last year’s Grand Finalists the Brighton Roosters, and the Reserve grade side registered a solid victory against Brothers.
The top side when down 30-4 against a strong Brighton side at Brighton on Saturday afternoon in what is always a tough road trip. Reports from the sideline confirmed the contest was a physical one, and the score line did not reflect the closeness of the contest. Defensively the effort from the top side cannot be faulted. Coach Addison will be looking for an improvement in Round 2 from what is an extremely talented side – once the side clicks they will be hard to stop.
For the hounds the Old boys points went to Aaron Pidcock (3), Jack Schaeffer (2) & Jac Caslick (1).
The reserve grade side recorded a solid 36-14 victory under the tutelage of new coach Matty Currie at Purtell Park on Saturday afternoon. In front of a large crowd the home side had little ball early and the Brothers side shot away to an early lead. In true hounds fashion the boys dug in and from that point on the contest never looked in doubt for the home side. The side was solid across the park with a mix of experience and youth – was great to see some old heads in Hinchcliffe, Whitton, Doherty & Parkinson leading the younger hounds around the park.
The old boys points were shared by Mat ‘Doc’ Doherty (3), Andrew Latimore (2) and Eli Kaihali (1).
Normanby Hounds 36 (Joe Henderson 2, Matthew Legovic, Rory Mcugh, Josh Holani, Eli Kailahi – Beau Ryan 6 goals) – Brothers 14.
Details of this weekend’s fixtures are expected to be released by the competition later in the week so stay tuned. Woof.
