Opponent: Aspley Devils
It was great to finally get on the field and play a game of footy. With 8 debutants there were plenty of nerves and excitement prematch. This being quickly replaced by the demands of this great game in the hot QLD sun.
A couple of early errors put us under the pump, and we spent the early exchanges deep in our end of the field. Despite our very spirited defence, Aspley were able to grind their way over the line and take an early lead.
This team has such strong spirit and commitment toward each other, and fought hard to get some good field position – and momentum changed our way. Glo went ever so close in the corner after nice ball movement. Then Tanille shot thru the middle to run away and score under the posts…game on!
The battle continued with both teams giving their all, but Aspley were able to edge ahead. The Hounds spirit never wavered, Eliza and Quinnie combining with a sneaky kick and chase that was mere inches from scoring. Aspley held on, and then scored late in the game for a well earned victory.
A fantastic first game together – so many debutants to Rugby League and to Hounds. Everybody should be holding their heads high, and be excited about what we can become.
3 Points = Tanille – constant danger with ball in hand and big defence.
2 Points = Rona – every involvement had impact, caused many headaches for opponents
1 Point = Raffy – explosive and formidable in the middle
