A little piece of history was made today at the Kennel, with women’s and junior girls teams playing on the same day for the first time ever. We also celebrated our humble warrior Milla, who proudly played her 50th game for the Hounds.

Despite the special occasion, Northlakes arrived determined to show why they were last year’s premiers. The opening stages were dominated by their powerful forward pack, with two early tries giving them plenty of confidence and momentum.

The Hounds women regrouped, bit down on the mouthguards, and got back to playing tough footy for each other and their supporters. We fought hard for field position, completed our sets, and slowly began to shift the momentum. Soon after, Em sliced through the line for our first four-pointer of the day, lifting the spirits and igniting the contest.

Although the Hounds were reduced to 13 players for the second half, there was a strong sense of belief and determination to leave everything out on the field. Northlakes started the second half strongly and extended their lead, but once again the Hounds weathered the storm. Tenille crossed on the left edge to narrow the margin and keep the fight alive.

Time eventually ran out on a miracle comeback, but the Hounds never stopped competing. Evvy capped off the day with her first-ever try, finishing off a perfectly weighted bomb from Abby.

It was a fantastic game between two sides who gave their all and played in great spirit. A big thumbs up to Northlakes for embracing the celebrations and occasion — community footy at its best.

3 Points – Max
2 Points – Em
1 Point – Evvy

Special thanks to Jose, Jen and Kotini for all the strapping, water and first aid support, and to Brad for making sure all match-day requirements were covered.

A huge shout out as well to the Junior Hounds for helping make it such a memorable day at the Kennel.
