Started the game strongly in wet conditions, completing our sets well and dominating the ruck early. That allowed us to score two tries and take an 8–6 lead in the opening 20 minutes.
A couple of 40/20s from the opposition helped them work out of pressure and gain field position. Coming out of our own red zone became difficult, and a few dropped balls and loose offloads gave them quality attacking opportunities close to our line. The halftime score sat at 18–8.
The second half proved challenging, with several players going down injured or battling through niggles. Fatigue began to set in and Slacks Creek built momentum through quick play-the-balls and strong ruck speed. Despite this, the boys dug deep and defended courageously throughout the half. A number of penalties against us kept the pressure on, with the final score finishing 40–8.
The team kept their heads high and are already looking forward to the rematch at our home ground.
