Wet weather made for a scrappy contest, with both sides struggling to complete their sets. Normanby took an early lead, capitalising on errors and penalties that went against Beenleigh.
Handling errors were common in the conditions, but Normanby managed to extend their advantage to 12–4. Beenleigh hit back right on the halftime siren to stay in the contest.
Discipline became an issue for Beenleigh in the second half, with multiple sin bins following repeated penalties, including several high tackles. Despite this, Beenleigh lifted their intensity and began to challenge Normanby’s defence.
Normanby responded well, holding firm and pushing their lead out to 16–4 with around 10 minutes remaining.
Late in the game, Beenleigh found momentum. After forcing errors, they worked their way downfield and scored under the posts with two minutes to go. A short kickoff gave them another opportunity, and they surged forward before being brought down.
With one minute remaining, a Normanby player was sent to the sin bin for a professional foul, giving Beenleigh one final chance. They spread the ball wide and scored in the corner on full-time, then converted the try to level the scores.
